Mama+Flame: An Aromatic Experience

In 2018, LaShette Pennington found the solution to balance a feminine vibe and luxury feel in her male-dominated household. With her determination and desire to provide an aromatic experience for herself and others, she created Mama+Flame.

Mama+Flame is a Black-owned luxury aromatherapy brand that offers candles, wax melts, and aroma sprays. All Mama+Flame products are made with natural ingredients and 100% wax blended with clean and organic essential oils.

We spoke with LaShette to get the scoop on what to expect from Mama+Flame in the upcoming year!


What is in store for Mama+Flame for the upcoming year of 2022?

Mama+Flame will dive into more Creative Lab experiences: candle-making interactive experiences, similar to the upcoming Make with Makerhoods virtual class I will be hosting, and a few brand collaborations are in the works. We are also doing a total rebrand. It's time to elevate the luxury experience for our customers; especially for the mommas out there.

What are your inspirations behind your brand?

I'm inspired by my everyday life. Single motherhood, navigating the dating scene, and interactions with my loved ones is all played out in my brand. Each scent represents a feeling that I have experienced at some point in my life.


What was it like having features in Oprah Magazine and Fun Times Magazine?

Very surreal! It feels amazing when your brand is recognized by anyone outside of your circle of friends. I'm glad that others are enjoying what my girls and I have been raving about since the beginning. When I first started Mama and Flame, I would say to my friends that I wouldn't be satisfied until Oprah knew who I was. I guess it's safe to say that we're on the right track.




Are there any new products we can look forward to? Absolutely! We're always experimenting. We're currently working on diffusers to provide another flameless option to experience our scents.

What are the new goals that you look forward to reaching? My most immediate goal is to secure a bigger space to create. The business has grown so much that it has taken over the majority of my home. Having a separate space would help us soar to greater heights.

What impact do you want to leave on the community by hosting events like Make with Makerhoods?

I want people to tap into their inner creativity. We are so used to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but when is the last time you've expressed yourself creatively? It's very therapeutic for me and I want others to experience that feeling too.
