Newark Makerhoods is Coming Soon in 2021

We are pleased to announce that Newark Makerhoods has been fully funded and is ready to start work!

Newark Makerhoods is bringing together a supportive community of local makers, creatives, entrepreneurs, and residents. It includes the rehabilitation of the Krueger-Scott Mansion and new affordable work/live construction.

Newark Makerhoods

Krueger-Scott Mansion

Built in 1888 by beer baron Gottfried Krueger and purchased by Newark's first African-American woman millionaire Louise Scott in 1958, the Krueger-Scott mansion has been vacant since 1982.

Makerhoods will be rehabilitating the beloved historic mansion and reinvigorating the previous owners' entrepreneurial spirit through workshops, community-centric events, co-working, office space, and event space. The Mansion programming will highlight its rich history with the City of Newark, while supporting Black & underrepresented entrepreneurs. In partnership with the City of Newark, the City will have use of the Ms. Louise Scott Library and ten annual coworking memberships will be available to Newark residents at a 50% discounted price.
